Revell German Submarine U212A class 1:144 Scale

Revell German Submarine U212A class 1:144 Scale

With the Class 212 A submarines the Federal German Navy has available to it the most up-to-date conventional type of submarine, equipped with state-of-the-art technology for long-duration almost silent travel. This submarine is the first in the world to be equipped with an ultra-modern hydrogen fuel cell engine and can operate submerged for weeks independently of external air without needing to come to the surface. The fuel cells are used for long-duration operations at moderate speeds, while the diesel-electric engine with batteries is used for high-speed manoeuvres. The submarine is powered by a newly-developed sickle-shaped propeller. During development the highest priority was placed on reducing the acoustic, magnetic and radar signatures. The armament includes the newly developed heavy-weight Seehecht torpedo that is launched from six torpedo tubes. The submarine is expected to travel at speeds of ca. 10 knots surfaced and ca. 20 knots dived. Weight: 1,450 t.

Revell German Submarine Type IIB

Revell German Submarine Type IIB

The German Type II submarines were the first new designs completed for coastal service in the North Sea and the Baltic after the end of the First World War. The Type IIs had powerful engines, were very manoeuvrable and could dive within 25 seconds. After only four months in production a submarine was launched. By the end of 1936 the German submarine forces had over 24 available. Referred to as the "canoe" due to the proverbial cramped conditions on board, some of the total of 50 submarines made were still in service in the Black Sea at the beginning of 1944. The German Navy training flotillas used this type until the war ended in 1945.

Revell U-Boat Type VII C 1:350 Scale

Revell U-Boat Type VII C 1:350 Scale

The type VII C was the best known and most frequently built German submarine in the Second World War. Equipped with four front and one rear torpedo the VII C was a feared weapon that formed the backbone of the Battle of the Atlantic. Thistype is an impressive representative of the rise and fall of the German submarine forces. This highly detailed model kit captivates by virtue of its hull with textured rivets and welds, its authentic vents and deck details. 29 individual parts provide an authentic reproduction of the power plant, net cutter, periscope and armaments. Revell U-Boat Type VII C/41 Atlantic Version 1:144 Scale

Revell U-Boat Type VII C/41 Atlantic Version 1:144 Scale

Starting mid-1943, 91 u-boots Type VII C/41 have been launched. By then, the conditions of the battle had totally changed. The "wolfpack tactic" achieved then seldom positive results against better protected convoys, especially with the introduction of air umbrellas. With the aim of a better defence when surfaced, the Type VII C/41 u-boots were fitted with a modified, larger bridge called "large wintergarten (winter garden)" armed with two 20 mm flakzwillings and one automatic 37 mm M42U flakkanone, which are reproduced with precision in the kit. A swivelling snorkel mast (also swivelling in the kit) for fresh air and fume exhaust, and four pressure boxes with 5-man floats were additional typical of these boats. The use of better steel sheets allowed the maximum depth to reach 250 metres. New parts are included, for the wooden deck planking with engraved pressure boxes and the "Atlantic" type bow

Revell German Submarine TYPE IX C 1:72 Scale

Revell German Submarine TYPE IX C 1:72 Scale

A total of 194 Type IX U-Boats designed for oceanic deployment entered service with the German Navy. Type IX-C U-Boats could operate at depths of up to 250 meters (750 ft) and were designed for an operational range of 13,450 nautical miles. The crew consisted of four officers and 44 men. The keel of U 505 was laid at the "Deutsche Werft" in Hamburg on 12 June 1940. It entered service on 26 August 1941 under the command of Lieutenant Loewe. By the end of 1942 as lead U-Boat of the 2nd U-Boat Flotilla out of Lorient, it was successful in achieving eight "sinkings" from West Africa to the Caribbean. In the spring of 1943 within the scope of a modification program, U- 505 received a new Mk III Conning Tower with a larger "Winter-Garden". The upper deck was fitted out with two 2-cm twin Flak Cannon. The 3.7-cm Flak from the after-deck was installed on the lower platform. The 10.5-cm Naval Gun was removed. Increased Allied airborne surveillance and the use of anti-submarine groups with escort carriers however led to the capture of U-505 by the U.S. Navy on 4 June 1944 off the West coast of Africa. Since 2005 it has been exhibited at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and is the only fully restored Type IX-C U-boat.

Revell German Submarine Type XXVIIB

Revell German Submarine Type XXVIIB "Seehund"

The mini-sub "Seehund" was the end result of a development of simple weapons of attack by the German navy towards the end of the Second World War. Due to its slim shape, which could not be located by the then sonar, its quiet engine and good seaworthiness, the German navy had great hopes for the operation of this little weapon of war. The 285 built sank 93,000 GRT of enemy shipping and the French destroyer "La Combattante". A single voyage could last up to seven days, which made enormous demands on the physical and mental reserves of the two crew members.

On the night of October 14th, 1939 under the command of Günther Prien U-47 surfaced in the heavily guarded British Naval Base in Scapa Flow. The battleship H.M.S. Royal Oak which lay at anchor there was sunk by a salvo of several torpedo's. U-47 then succeeded to escape undetected back to home waters. Seventeen months after this spectacular action U-47 was sunk by the British destroyer HMS Wolverine. U-47, one of a total of 24 Type VII U-boats was built at the Krupp Germania dockyard in Kiel and entered service in December 1938.

Revell U Boat Type XXI with Interior 1:144 Scale

At the beginning of 1945 with the type XXI Germany had the most advanced submarine in the world at that time. Due to numerous technical innovations it was capable of unlimited underwater travel as the diesel engines drew in the necessary fresh air through a special snort. It had a linear shape designed for submarine travel and its battery capacity was three times greater, giving it a sensational speed of 17 knots dived. Other innovations were noiseless electric motors for stealth, highly sensitive navigation instruments and 2 cm anti-aircraft gun turrets. The model has a separate left outer wall to the hull giving an authentic insight into this trail-blazing submarine. Many compartments are represented in accurate detail and also the diesel engines and electric motors. Views of the control room and living quarters of the crew give an impression of life under water. The decals include details of the interior and markings for the U2540 that went into service on 24.02.1945. After a short training voyage, on 04.05.1945, the U2540 was scuttled by the crew in the Flensburg Fjord. In 1957 it was raised and served in the Federal German Navy as a test vessel the "Wilhelm Bauer". Today the U2540 can be seen as a museum ship.

Revell US Navy SKIPJACK-CLASS Submarine 1:72 Scale

Revell US Navy SKIPJACK-CLASS Submarine 1:72 Scale

The USS Skipjack (SSN-585) was the first US Navy nuclear attack submarine with ahydro-dynamically optimized tear-drop shape. The hull was a single pressure hullwith circular cross-section made of high strength HY-80 steel. A visual feature was that the forward diving planes were fin-mounted for the first time. The six torpedo tubes in the bow could fire a total of 24 torpedoes. The newly developedS5W nuclear reactor enabled her to remain submerged for a long period and her range was only limited by food stores. The shipyard test run confirmed sensational performance with a top speed of over 30 knots when dived. When the USS Skipjack was transferred to the fleet on 15th April 1959, the US Navy received its first true submersible that could operate submerged for months at atime to secure the safety of fast-moving fleet units. Until their decommissioning the six vessels of the Skipjack Class formed the senior unit of the US submarine fleet. The USS Skipjack was the last submarine of that class tobe retired on 19th April 1990.
