Revell Battle of Britain Gift Set 1:72 Scale

Revell Battle of Britain Gift Set 1:72 Scale

The legendary Battle of Britain represented a significant turning point in the German efforts at expansion during the Second World War. In preparation for the invasion, in the summer months of 1940, the German Air Force started massive attacks on British towns and RAF aerodromes. In this solitary defensive battle they were faced by only 700 Spitfires and Hurricanes flown by young and inexperienced pilots. On lst July 1940, RAF Fighter Command had fewer fighter planes and pilots than the Luftwaffe. Until September 1940 therefore small air defence units had been principally used in order to retain sufficient reserves. By the beginning of August the Luftwaffe had already lost over 300 aircraft in attacks on English ships and ports. However the achievement of air superiority in the airspace over the south of England was considered to be a fundamental requirement for a successful invasion. The German air force command was convinced that the RAF fighter defences could be eliminated by a battle of attrition. The aim was to force the RAF fighter squadrons into battle and destroy them. Since 1937 radar stations had been set up along the British coasts. These enabled early detection of incoming German bomber formations. The fighters were guided to the enemy by "walkie-talkie" radio. The German command underestimated the effectiveness of this system. 13th August 1940 - "Eagle Day" - marked the beginning of a series of major attacks against RAF installations, coastal radar stations and Royal Navy bases. From 7th September the focus of the bombing raids moved to the London area, primarily carried out by the He 111 and Ju 87. For the first time the attackers were countered by numerous British fighter units. After 29th October the major bombing raids against London were carried out at night. This last phase, in which night attacks were made against targets all over England, lasted until May 1941. The night attacks on Coventry in November and on 8th April 1941 were the heaviest bombing raids of the war to date. In these air attacks 27,450 civilians were killed. By the end of October 544 RAF Fighter Command had lost 544 pilots and 1,547 aircraft. By May 1941 German losses had risen to over 4,600 men and 2,200 downed aircraft. The attempt to wage a strategic war in the air with inadequate means had failed. The Fighter Command "Hurricanes" and "Spitfires" had mounted a successful defence against attacks by the German Luftwaffe.

Revell D-Day Set (LCM3 & 4x4 Off Roader) 1:72 Scale

Revell D-Day Set (LCM3 & 4x4 Off Roader) 1:72 Scale

On 6 June, 1944, the Allies landed in Normandy. This famous day is commonly known as D-Day. In 2014, the 70th anniversary of this day, which was so crucial to the outcome of the war, will be celebrated.

From 1942 in the Second World War, a good 8,000 of the LCM 3 (50ft landing craft) were used by the American and British navies to transport light armoured cars and materials from ship to shore. These landing craft could carry up to 30 tonnes of cargo and were used for landing the Allied forces in Normandy (D-Day). With a total build of at least 640,000, the Off-Road Vehicle is the vehicle most used in warfare. This robust, light and all-wheel-drive vehicle was used by the Allied forces in all theatres of war. The vehicle was often brought ashore from landing craft to the coastal areas taken by the troops for supply and transport purposes.

Revell Ferrari Gift Set

Revell Ferrari Gift Set

Ferrari Enzo:
The Ferrari Enzo Ferrari, named after the legendary company founder, was launched in 2002 as an outstanding expression of the concept of extreme sports car, developed for road use,yet epitomising the most advanced concepts of Formula 1 racing technology. The air duct divides the arrow-shaped front of the car so that the 225 kg V12 power plant with 6,0 l capacity and 660 HP performance gets sufficient cooling. The typical round taillights are beside the rear spoiler that reacts to the driving speed. As usual the body design is from Pininfarina. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is reached by the Enzo Ferrari in 3,65 sec., the sprint from 0 to 200 km/h in 9.5 seconds. The maximum speed is officially announced to be over 350 km/h.

Ferrari F430:The successor to the Ferrari 360 Modena has been in production since autumn 2004. The new car from Maranello is based on the 360 Modena, but has undergone some obvious modifications. In particular the large air intakes are striking. The rear echoes that of the Enzo Ferrari cars. The new 4.3 litre V8 engine develops a satisfying 490 bhp at 8500 rpm. This luxury sports car shoots from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4 seconds. It has a top speed of 315 km/h. Five different driving programmes, from "normal" to "racing" mode, can be selected.

During the "60's" the safe and fast transport of heavy and highly sensitive loads took on a new meaning for the US Army. Suitable transport systems had to be procured for the new short and medium range missile systems. The powerful1 80bhp Kenworth Tractor was mated to a Fruehauf trailer. Special transportation cushions provided a secure hold for individual components. Honest John was a short range Free Flight Rocket with a range of 48 Kilometre's. In all, a total of 7089 Honest John MGR-1B' were produced. The weapons system was deployed until 1982. The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) were also equipped with 11 Honest John Batteries.

Revell Mini Cooper Gift Set Scale 1:24

Revell Mini Cooper Gift Set Scale 1:24

MINI COOPER Mk. 1 (1964)

In 1956 Sir Alec Issigonis was commissioned to develop a small and economicalfamily car with space for four persons and their luggage. To achieve this he used a transverse front engine with the gearbox located under it. This completely new and absolutely revolutionary concept was an enormous space saver. Consequently every cm of room in the 3 m long MINI was used and the relation between size of interior and external dimensions was unique and unequalled. The sporty version of the MINI bore the name of the tuner John Cooper. With over 39,000 sold, the MINI Cooper Mk. 1, which delivered 55 hp and a top speed of 143 km/h, was the most successful Cooper variant.

MINI Cooper (modern, 2000)

The new MINI with its round headlamps, striking radiator grille and curved rear reflects the typical features of its English predecessor. This stylistic influence is also expressed in the interior, in particular in the very large speedometer and rev-counter. In this sporty three-door car, the characteristic design of its legendary ancestor makes a familiar, but at the same time a very modern impression. Ultra-modern technology and up-to-date comfort dominate the inner workings of the MINI, which is served by disc brakes, five speed gearbox and electronic stability programme. The 115 bhp Cooper has a 1.6 litre engine, front wheel drive and, as shown in the model, also has a chrome radiator grille.

Revell U.S. Legends: 8th Air Force 1:72 Scale

Revell U.S. Legends: 8th Air Force 1:72 Scale

The U.S. 8th Air Force was stationed in South East England from early in 1942 under the command of Major General Carl A. Spaatz. Whilst preparing for the Allied invasion of Western Europe it expanded to become the largest air force in the history of aviation. From the middle of 1944, the Eighth Air Force was able to deploy more than 2,000 four-engined bombers and 1,000 fighter aircraft for missions against multiple targets. With its strategic daylight raids against German industry and lines of communication as well as enemy airfields and troop positions it made an important contribution to the achievement and sustainment of air superiority and for the Allied victory in Europe. 6866 bombers and 3695 fighter aircraft were lost by the end of the War. In the Summer of 1944 the 8th Air Force had around 1800 Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress under its command. Their maximum bomb-load was 5.8 tons. From the end of 1943, its 15 Fighter Groups gradually converted to the long range P-51B escort fighter armed with six heavy machine-guns. For the first time its bomber formations now received effective protection. From May 1944 the P-47D equipped with eight 12.7 mm MG's proved its worth not only as an escort fighter but especially as a fighter bomber.
