The Arado Ar196 was the standard seaplane of the German Navy and operated from battleships and cruisers. Between 1938 and 1944 over 500 examples were built, which proved particularly useful in reconnaissance and submarine hunting. The maneuverable aircraft offered its two-person crew excellent visibility and, thanks to its robust construction, was able to take off and land even in rough seas.
