Tamiya Ducati 888 Superbike Racer 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Ducati 888 Superbike Racer 1:12 Scale

On the 26th of September 1993, a young and inspiring motorcycle racer named Tetsuya Harada was adding the final touches to his machine at the Jarama racing circuit, just prior tot he last round of the season. This would make him the first Japanese World Champion since 1977. His closest rival, Loris Capirossi, was ahead in point standings going into this last race, but bad luck plagued him during the dynamic battle for the 250cc GP2 title. Although this was Harada's debut season for the World Grand Prix, he had been working closely with Yamaha for the last couple of seasons, perfecting the works TZM bike, which allowed him to win the 1992 All Japan Championship title. The 1993 Yamaha TZ250M used a 249cc liquid cooled V-twin cylinder engine capable of 94 horsepower. Its crankcase reed valve induction system was combined with an electronically controlled exhaust valve system. The highly sophisticated six-speed gear box used an electronic cut-out gear changing system that eliminated clutch operation and minimized racing stresses. This awesome powerplant was mounted on Yamaha's exceptionally rigid twin-spar box-section aluminum frame that was capable of head angle adjustments. The rear suspension was also of box-sectioned aluminum to withstand the enormous power and traction. The bike rides on Marchesini cast magnesium wheels matched to Dunlop radial tires. The superb stopping power was achieved by front Brembo and rear Nissin Brake systems.

Tamiya Ducati 916 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Ducati 916 1:12 Scale

Ducati, the renowned Italian motorcycle manufacturer, is highly regarded by motorcycle enthusiasts the world over. Their current top-of-the-line "916" bike was unveiled to the public during the 1993 Milan Motor Show. In recent years, Ducati has been a dominant force at the World Superbike Championships. Their 916 was developed using the latest racing technology and expertise, and became a very effective base machine fore these Championships. Its 114 horsepower, 916cc, liquid cooled L-twin cylinder engine uses a computer controlled fuel injection system and Ducat's traditional Desmodromic valve operation system. This valve system uses cam mechanics for both opening and closing the valves, while a conventional system closes the valves with springs only. This powerful engine is mounted in a light weight and extremely rigid, chrome molybdenum steel tubular frame. The rear swing arm suspension uses a mono-arm for quick tire changing during competition. Showa's shock absorbers and Brembo brake calipers are used at both ends. The 916 has a 2-stage adjustable caster offset system. Its aerodynamic cowl design is very distinctive, differing from other racer-replica bikes. The front cowl has engine air intake openings and mounts the dual headlamps. The fuel tank is ergonomically sculptured to fit the rider's varying posture during hard riding. The 916 is a true street legal racing machine on the leading edge of performance and styling.

Tamiya Ducati Desmosedici 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Ducati Desmosedici 1:12 Scale

Desmosedici is a compound word made from the Italian for sixteen, "sedici" and the name of Ducati's trademark desmodromic valve design. The DOHC 16 V4 engine is composed of two 90 degree L twin components held together in a tubular steel truss-frame, with swing arm and rear shock pivots directly attached to engine in a truly original fashion. The sleek and powerful bike was piloted in its debut 2003 MotoGP season by L. Capirossi, former 125 and 250cc class title holder, and World Superbike Champion T. Bayliss. The GP4 really showed its stuff during its 2003 debut season, taking 3rd place at Suzuka and winning 1st at Catalunya. Maintaining the same basic structure in 2004, Ducati brushed up everything from the engine to the body to make an even higher performance superbike. While the Desmosedici GP4 had a difficult first half of the season, it began to show results towards the end, with L. Capirossi winning 3rd place in round 15. T. Bayliss also took 3rd in the final round, ending Ducati's season on a high-note, and promising further excitement still to come!

Tamiya Honda CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Honda CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird 1:12 Scale

Unveiled to the public in 1996, Honda's CBR 1100XX "Super Blackbird" has brought the leading edge of motorcycle technology to a new height. Even though it provides and awesome 165 horsepower output and a top speed exceeding 300km/h, this super sport bike is not just about muscle. Its sleek, bullet-nosed wedge shape styling was the result of the extensive wind tunnel testing. This distinctive "piggy-back" combination headlights allow the Super Blackbird to have an extremely narrow frontal aspect. The cowling, with purposefully sculptured air intakes and outlets, contribute to achieve better aerodynamics, whilst providing comfort and wind protection for the rider. At the heart of the Super Blackbird lies the 1,137cc, liquid cooled inline four cylinder engine which is compact and light in weight. By incorporating a dual-shaft balancer system, this powerful unit revs up very smoothly, and annoying secondary vibration is virtually eliminated. Thanks to the low vibration, the engine is directly bolted to the dual-spar, triple box section aluminum frame without using rubber mounts, obtaining even further overall rigidity. The entire lightness, and excellent suspension system enable it to have outstanding agility and maneuverability. Positive stopping power is obtained through Honda's Dual-Combined Brake System, which actuates the front and rear brakes by either pulling the hand lever or pressing the foot pedal.

Tamiya Honda MVX250F 1:12 Scale

The MVX250F was Honda's 1983 contribution to the 250cc class of bikes, and it had plenty of high-performance company from other manufacturers. Built for speed, it featured a 2-stroke liquid-cooled V3 powerplant that had a maximum output of 40hp, and used a relatively small 16-inch front tire, as well as a racing spec silencer, on a no-frills frame. It was also equipped with inboard disc brakes and Honda's very own Pro-Link rear suspension.

This is a 1/12 scale plastic model assembly kit of the Honda MVX250F. ?Length: 168mm, width: 76mm, height: 96mm. The powerful 90-degree V3 engine is recreated in fine detail. Tamiya is pleased to welcome the Honda NS500 '84 to the 1/12 Scale Motorcycle product line-up. The 2-stroke engine in the NS500 was Honda's first, and as a V3 it was somewhat unique at the time of its debut in 1982. However, that did not stop the machine from gaining 3 wins in its maiden season and then going all the way to the Riders' and Constructors Championships of the 1983 Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix in the safe hands of F. Spencer. In 1984, it was rotated with the NSR500 throughout the season and contributed to a second successive Honda Constructors' title.

Tamiya Honda RS1000 Endurance Racer 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Honda RS1000 Endurance Racer 1:12 Scale

From their endurance racing debut in 1976 until 1980 Honda received excellent service from the dominant RCB1000, but in 1980 it was decided to switch to the RS1000. As a base, it used the CB900F, which itself had heritage from the RCB1000. The RS1000 utilized an air-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 4-cylinder powerplant that in its 999cc 1981 spec offered 130hp. In 1980 the bike showed what it was made of, taking a glorious championship, and while it failed to repeat in 1981 it demonstrated there was still plenty of gas in the tank by taking the 8 Hour race in Suzuka, Japan, and coming in second in the overall rankings on the season.

Tamiya Honda VFR750R 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Honda VFR750R 1:12 Scale

Honda's release of their limited production, road-going, "works racer" VFR750R made headlines in the motorcycle scene in 1987. The VFR750R is a street-legal counterpart of the formidable RVF750 endurance racer which displayed remarkable potential in the world endurance championships. This bike follows the concept seen in the RVF750, including the use of space-age technology and components such as titanium, carbon-fiber, kevlar, and magnesium. It betters the earlier bikes by a wide margin. The VFR750R also uses a twin-spar aluminum box frame, Pro-Arm (rear swing arm), and a center-lock hub rear wheel. These superlative features and the RVF's racing reputation have made it a collector's item even before the first unit was off the production line. The 748cc, liquid cooled, V4 cylinder 16 valve engine has been kept compact to keep the VFR's overall dimensions very close to the current 500cc Grand Prix racers, for a minimum frontal area. Further, this motorcycle departs from the typical Japanese mass-production practice by using a great deal of human labor on each unit, such as the FRP cowling and windscreen being laid up by hand. The Honda VFR750R is one potent package and has been designed to be very competitive on racing tracks in stock form, yet remain street legal. It will remain a desirable and elusive high performance bike for years to come.

Tamiya Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R 1:12 Scale

Kawasaki's legacy of cutting-edge sportbikes has inspired motorcycle fans for generations. Recently, the call for 300km/h plus super sports bikes has motivated several manufactures to bring out powerful contenders.
Kawasaki answered the call at the 1999 Paris Motorcycle Show, with the impressive debut of their all-new Ninja ZX-12R. This Ninja was reportedly created in the image of a fighter plane, which comes as no surprise considering that its slippery aerodynamics involved the cooperation of the Aerospace Division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. In fact, the ZX-12R spent more time in the wind tunnel during its development phase than any motorcycle in Kawasaki's history. The results are evident: small winglets on the sides of the fairing separate airflow around the bike; small wind deflectors on the lower forks deflect turbulent air from the engine; a long lip on the edge of the fairing further smoothens out airflow. Also, projecting just ahead of the front fairing, a large scoop takes advantage of higher air pressure, heightening intake efficiency. A monocoque frame backbone creates an airbox that allows air to pass through the inside of the bike for cooling in addition to ensuring overall rigidity.

The powerplant of the Ninja ZX-12R is a fuel injected 4-cylinder 1,199cc engine that pumps out an abundant 178hp. Its four-into-two-into-one exhaust system features a titanium muffler paired with a catalyzer, which helps eliminate unburned hydrocarbons for cleaner emissions. Kawasaki brilliantly raised the superbike standard in performance, power and aerodynamics with their series flagship, the Ninja ZX-12R.

Tamiya Suzuki GSX1100S Katana 1:12 Scale

One of the most famous motorcycle shows in the world, is held every two years in Cologne West Germany, and the 1980 show is sure to stand out as one of the most unforgettable. One reason was that Honda released their CX500 turbo for the first time, and the second is that Suzuki's GSX1100S "Katana" (Japanese for sword) was unveiled. The Honda CX500 attracted attention for its advanced engine techniques and the Katana for its advanced and aggressive body styling, which broke from common traditional motorcycle styling. Although the Katana GSX1100S styling impressed the many thousands of viewers, almost everybody thought that it was just for show and the production model would be quite different

During the summer of 1981, Suzuki released the production Katana with almost exactly the same body styling seen at the Cologne show, with subtle improvements in the engine and running gear. The body styling is from the genius of Mr. Hans A. Muth of West Germany, who spent much time ensuring driver comfort in his design, and which proved out in many wind tunnel tests. The entire styling was derived from research on the best drivers position, and the rearward placed backsteps and unique tank styling were not done just for the pleasing jet age appearance.

About the Suzuki RGV-Gamma (XR89)

The opening round of the 500cc class 1999 World Road Race Championships was set ablaze in the heat of the Malaysian GP. Although it was Team Honda that was said to have the advantage in the opening race of the season, they would be denied victory by young rider, Kenny Roberts, Jr. and the rest of the Suzuki team. New to the Suzuki team, Roberts, Jr. secured a third place finish in the qualifying round before burning rubber to a victory which surprised everyone, especially Team Honda. Proving his triumph was no fluke, Roberts, Jr. went on to win the second round too, this time on the rain soaked course of the Japan GP. On his way to the checkered flag in Japan, Roberts, Jr. was also successful in beating out five year champion Honda NSR rider, Michael Doohan. The 1999 version of the RGV-Gamma is known as the XR89. Its development centered on creating greater overall balance to unlock its maneuverability and cornering speed. The V-type 4-cylinder engine of XR89 model is cradled by a lightweight, aluminum twin-tube frame. The potential of the RGV-Gamma was more than proved by Roberts, Jr., who mounted the victory podium eight times in 1999, securing a very respectable overall season ranking of second place.

The Yamaha RZ250 made its debut at the 1979 Tokyo Motor Show. It was powered by a 247cc 35hp 2-stroke water-cooled engine attached to the frame via two orthogonal mounts, which prevented engine vibrations from being transmitted to the frame. This allowed for a more comfortable ride and a more lightweight double cradle frame design. It also featured mono-cross rear suspension and spiral-like spoke design wheels. With its exciting road-legal racer styling and innovative mechanical features, the bike left a lasting impression and became one of the best-selling 250cc class bikes on the Japanese market. The Tamiya model faithfully captures the full-size bike in all its details in 1/12 scale.

Tamiya Yamaha Virago XV1000 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Yamaha Virago XV1000 1:12 Scale

About the Yamaha XV1000 Virago

The motorcycle, along with the automobile, has played a big role in transporting humans from place to place for many years. Man has always been able to adapt his tools for specific needs, and as the motorcycle became more and more a sport, or leisure transportation vehicle, it has been designed for more specific purposes. The off road, touring, motocross and speed bikes as well as the basic transportation motorcycle can be seen in most countries, but America seems to have a certain styling all its own. This so called "Chopper style" came about during the mid 1960's from the many modified Harley's done by members of the many motorcycle clubs around the country. There are many long straight stretches of good, high speed roadways in America, and to sit back comfortably, with feet resting on forward pedals and sitting on a very relaxing saddle, brought about these modifications. The Yamaha Company of Japan is well known for quality bikes around the world, and they have been making bikes for specific areas for years.

The Yamaha XS650 Special released in 1978 had the American look, and since then this company has marketed bikes with similar styling. The XV1000 Virago is their latest, large bore, American styled motorcycle and sure to become popular. Its front wheel caster angle of 32 degrees provides an extended wheel base of 1525mm, making its straight running ability superb. The wide, pull back type of handle bars and the forward placed foot rests, allow the rider to sit up as if he was on a horse. A separate looking, loose cushion seat is almost like sitting on a sofa, and it is positioned at a height of only 715mm. The 70hp 981cc twin cylinder is in the "V" format and transmits its power via an enclosed drive shaft for quiet, maintenance free operation. The bike comes with much chrome and lots of gold plating, but it is done in such a manner that the bike does not look gaudy. It is a luxurious and comfortable riding motorcycle, designed for the American bike enthusiast, but sure to be well received throughout the globe. The Virago seems to have the custom made finish and individual 60's styling that characterizes the true "Chopper" of America.

Tamiya Yamaha YZF-R1 1:12 Scale

Tamiya Yamaha YZF-R1 1:12 Scale

At the Motorcycle Show held in Milan, Italy, in September of 1997, the Yamaha YZF-R1 supersport motorcycle made its debut. Sporting a powerful 1000cc engine, it has the compact construction of a 400cc bike. The YZF-R1 was developed for maximum possible cornering ability in a production motorcycle. With a 1000cc water-cooled, four stroke, 4-cylinder, 5-valve engine and adopting a redesigned EXUP exhaust system, it pumps out 150hp of high-intensity power. Subtle throttle control makes both superb acceleration response and rhythmic cornering a reality. The Deltabox II aluminum frame was sought after not only for its rigidity, but more so for its moderate flexibility during tight cornering. With the addition of a long span aluminum swing arm, high control ability has been achieved. By adopting an upside-down front fork, stroke distance has been increased and traction heightened. Boasting a sharp form with multi-reflector lights, the YZF-R1 has been given an unprecedented style. From the contact points between the rider and motorcycle, right down to the material used in the seat and tank, the YZF-R1 has been thoroughly studied. Of course, the abundance of high precision and high quality parts goes without saying. Designed to cruise at high speeds on winding roads, the YZF-R1 shatters expectations about large exhaust engine motorcycles. Yamaha has expanded the possibilities of a 1000cc bike.

It is commonly held that long distance touring is only for massive, high displacement motorcycle. At the Milan Show in September of 1997, Yamaha shattered this myth with its YZF-R1. Targeting high-speed turning on a winding road, it has been constructed with compact design of a 400cc bike. Adopting a short wheelbase and an EXUP exhaust system unique to Yamaha, its 998cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 5-valve, DOHC engine pumps out 150hp of maximum power. The YZF-R1 has drawn worldwide attention with its ability to nimbly round turn after turn at breathtaking speeds. In response to this high performance, a wide variety of parts have been put on the market to make the ride even more thrilling. Taira Racing, represented by former All Japan 500cc champion, Tadahiko Taira, put forth an abundance of these parts for use with the R1. Taira became the champion in the 350cc international A Class of 1980, but he did not stop there. Riding the Yamaha YZR, Taira challenged the 500cc class of the All Japan Road Race Championship and won for three years straight. Furthermore, he participated in the World Championship 250cc class throughout 1986, winning the final event, the San Marino GP. Starting with a titanium muffler for more power at moderate speeds, a curved carbon fender over the rear tire and aluminum sprockets. Taira Racing has released abundant parts in the pursuit of riding excellence.
