Revell Bismarck German Battleship 1:700 Scale

Revell Bismarck German Battleship 1:700 Scale  (RV05098)

The Bismarck and the Tirpitz were the two largest battleships in the Second World War. The Bismarck, with a length of 251 m, went into service on 24.08.1940. On completion of the training runs she took part in the Rhine exercise. On 24.05.1941, in a sea battle off Greenland, she sank the British cruiser HMS Hood. Then the Bismarck, having damage to the bow, made for a Frenchport. During the pursuit by British ships and aircraft the ship was rendered unfit for action by enemy fire and scuttled in the Atlantic. Finely detailed components with rivets and recessed panel lines give an authentic reproduction of this imposing battleship. Other features of the model kit include moving gun turrets and barrels.

Revell German WWI Light Cruisers SMS Dresden & SMS Emden 1:350 Scale

Revell German WWI Light Cruisers SMS Dresden & SMS Emden 1:350 Scale  (RV05500)

The FIRST WORLD WAR - two of the Imperial German Navy's light cruisers , SMS Dresden and SMS Emden wage a trade war against British ships far from home. The Dresden initially operated off the East Coast of South America and the Emden in the Indian Ocean. In order to avoid British Warships the Dresden made its way into the Pacific to join the German East Asia Squadron. In the first naval battle of the First World War, a Royal Navy Squadron was able to narrowly avoid defeat in an action in which two British Warships were sunk. The subsequent attack on Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands failed however and all the German ships except the Dresden were lost. Crippled the Dresden hid in bays around the South of Chile until 14 March 1915 when she was discovered by three British warships and fired upon. The Captain decided to scuttle his ship. The Emden however, cleverly avoided enemy contact and was thus able to destroy the Oil Storage Unit at Madras. During later actions, two small British cruisers and many merchant ships also fell victim to the Emden. The Emden was however, rendered unfit for action whilst under fire from the Australian cruiser Sydney on its way to the Coco Islands (early in November 1914). The captain was forced to run his ship aground in order to prevent her sinking. Later as a special commendation, all surviving crew members were permitted to bear the additional title Emden.

Revell Russian WWI Battleship Gangut 1:350 Scale

Revell Russian WWI Battleship Gangut 1:350 Scale  (RV05137)

Completed in 1911 the Gangut was the first battleship in the Imperial Russian Navy. A total of four Gangut class battleships had their keel laid and were completed in Saint Petersburg. The armour protection extended over most of the hull and also the relatively small superstructure. The two central turrets of the main armament could only be deployed laterally. The Gangut class battleships were intended for use on the Baltic Seas and were therefore specially fitted with an ice-breaker bow. The expensive battleships were rarely used during World War I in order not to jeopardize them. They came into the hands of the revolutionaries after the outbreak of the Russian Revolution. All the ships were renamed after the end of the Russian Civil War. The Gangut was renamed Oktjabrskaja Revoljuzija - October Revolution.

Revell U.S.Navy Landing Ship Medium (early) 1:144 Scale

Revell U.S.Navy Landing Ship Medium (early) 1:144 Scale  (RV05123)

Landing Ships of the LSM-Class (Landing Ship Medium) were used from the middle of 1944 by the U.S. Navy in the fight against Japan in the Pacific. Totalling more than 550 ships they were the main component of the amphibious forces for landing troops and vehicles on enemy beaches. The loading capacity of a LSM roughly corresponded to a mechanized platoon. The steel hull had nine watertight bulkheads. With an anchor located at the stern, the ships could withdraw from the beach without assistance. Armour plating protected the superstructures against small arms fire. The early LSM were mostly equipped with six 20-mm Oerlikon guns for self defence. The open-top cargo area encompassed almost the entire length of the ship and was at maximum 7.9 m (26 ft) wide. By the end of the war, nine ships were lost mainly due to kamikaze attacks. After the end of World War 2 some ships went into service with allies armed forces. In 1958 NATO partners Germany received three LSM and two LSM(R).

The Swift Boats were unique Fast Patrol Craft that were specifically designed for use in South Vietnam by the American Forces. They operated mostly in groups of three to five boats in order to control shipping and prevent Viet Cong supply boats penetrating the South Vietnamese lines. The main areas of operation were the Mekong delta and shallow coastal waters. They often also moved combat units of the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy SEAL Teams. The 15 meter long aluminium boats reached a top speed of 32 knots, were manned by specially trained crews and were fitted light but very effective weapons which included a 0.5 inch calibre machine gun and a grenade launcher.

With the construction of new battleships and aircraft carriers also came the requirement for more modern destroyers with a capability to achieve 38 knots. Building contracts for 100 ships of the future Fletcher Class had been awarded by the end of 1940. After entering the war in December 1941 the US Navy awarded a further 75 contracts. The U.S.S. Fletcher (DD-445) after which the class was named was launched on 3 May 1942. During the Second World War the Fletcher Class proved to be the most successful destroyers in the US Navy thanks to their powerful propulsion systems and extensive radar equipment.

The U.S.S. Missouri, affectionately referred to as Mighty Mo , one of the largest and most powerful warships in the U.S. Navy, came to fame through the signing of the Japanese Surrender Documents. The Missouri was completed in June 1944 and was the last of a total of four ships of the Iowa-class who possessed an ideal combination of fire-power and speed. The Missouri's active service operations ranged from the Iwo Jima Landings in February 1945 to the cessation of hostilities in September 1945. She also served in the Korean War.

Revell U.S.S. Nimitz (CVN-68) 1:1200 Scale

Revell U.S.S. Nimitz (CVN-68) 1:1200 Scale  (RV05814)

The nuclear powered USS Nimitz has been in service with the US Navy since 1975. Together with nine other aircraft carriers in this class, the Nimitz is one of the largest warships ever built. In addition to 5,680 soldiers there are about 85 military machines aboard this 333m long "supercarrier". The extensive radar and sensor equipment and an automated self-defence system provide surveillance and protection up to a distance of 230 sea miles. Thanks to her nuclear propulsion the carrier can move quickly over long distances and operate for months in the theatre of operations. She is permanently accompanied by a "carrier strike group" comprising, in addition to a supply ship, from three to five destroyers, one frigate and two submarines. The planned service life is 50 years.

Revell U.S.S. New Jersey BB-62 (1982) 1:350

Revell U.S.S. New Jersey BB-62 (1982) 1:350  (RV05129)

The USS New Jersey was one of the largest warships in the world. Belonging to the Iowa-class the ship had an ideal combination of high speed and fire-power and was therefore considered a formidable opponent for many years. Construction of the New Jersey began on 16 September 1940, as the keel was laid at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. She was commissioned into service on 23 May 1943. Thereafter she took part in various operations during World War II, the Korean and Vietnam War, off the coast of Lebanon and ultimately in the Persian Gulf. In 1981/82 she underwent fundamental modernisation during her last overhaul and received the latest electronics and guided weapon systems. Eight Tomahawk cruise missile launchers and four Harpoon missile launchers were added to the nine massive 40.6 cm (16 inch) guns of the main armament. Additionally, four 20 mm Phalanx Gatling guns were added for short-range defence. Instead of the on-board aircraft from the Second World War the battleship now carried modern Sea Hawk helicopters. With its latest equipment fit, the New Jersey differed considerably from its condition during the Second World War. In September 1983, due to the Lebanese civil war the New Jersey was ordered into the Mediterranean to support American and French troops. She bombarded several enemy positions in the Lebanon. Later she took part in various operations and exercises, including the Persian Gulf early in 1990. In mid 1990 the New Jersey undertook its farewell tour along the west coast of the USA. It was finally de-commissioned on 08 February 1991. She then lay in reserve in the US Navy Shipyard in Puget Sound along with her sister ship the USS Missouri (BB-63). She was finally deleted from the official ships register in 1999. Today the battleship lies at anchor on the Delaware River as a museum ship in Camden, New Jersey. Although it looked like the era of the battleships had come to an end during the Second World War, the U.S. Navy could and would not dispense with the steadfastness and tremendous fire-power of the Iowa class battleships. The shells fired from the main 40.6 cm (16 inch) guns weighed about 1.2 tons and had a range of about 40 km.
