Bounty with Cutaway Hull Section 1:45 Scale

Built in 1783 as a cargo ship, in 1787 she was purchased by the Royal Navy for the transporting of breadfruit from Tahiti to the Caribbean. The breadfruit was supposed to serve as cheap food for the slaves that worked in the sugar cane plantations.

She set sail from England on 23rd December 1787, under the captaincy of Captain William Bligh. After a 10 month voyage she finally arrived in Tahiti, later than planned. As a result of this delay they then had to wait 5 months before setting sail for the Caribbean, her final destination. During this voyage there was a mutiny on board the ship, led by Fletcher Christian. The mutineers then ordered Captain Bligh, along with 18 loyal seamen, aboard the ship’s launch and cast them adrift. Bligh managed the heroic exploit of reaching the island of Timor, after 41 days at sea.

This is a type of fishing with a firmly routed tradition throughout the Mediterranean, although particularly numerous off the coast of Catalonia, at night and using lights, from whence the name “bots de llum”(light boats). These boats, around 16 feet in length are usually crewed by two men and are mainly used for fishing mackerel and sardine, although they can be used for any other fish or crustaceans that might be attracted by the light shining down from the large gas-lit fanals. One of their particular characteristics are the two large stabilisers “escuas” to limit the rocking of the wave swell, and the replacement of the helm with two ropes that operate the rudder through the fanal support.

The Montañés represents the maximum level of perfection achieved by Spanish naval architecture, when Spanish ships-of-the-line were a match for those of any navy in the world. The figurehead of this ship is not the royal lion but a montañes (highlander), in gratitude for the financial contribution towards her construction made by the people of the mountains. She was launched in Ferrol on 14th May 1794. It is said that she was an extraordinary vessel, whether sailing close to the wind, running free or with a following wind, and that, more than any other ship, she kept her batteries out of the water. She was engaged in a number of battles, including Trafalgar, where she mounted 76 guns and 4 carronades with mortars, located on her quarter deck. On 6th March 1810, in a violent storm, she sank off the Bay of Cadiz.

Occre Nuestra Senora del Pilar
The construction of this ship, based on plans and regulations established by José Antonio de Gaztaneta, took place in the Port of Cavite, in the Philippines, along with that of Nuestra. Sra. de Covadonga. Work began in 1731 and she was finally launched two years later in 1733. She had two bridges and a displacement of 1,000 tons, was fitted with 50 cannon as well as 10 swivel guns, mounted on quarter deck and forecastle. For twenty years she plied the route from Mexico to Manila and in 1750 underwent a complete refit in the Port of Cavite. In 1750, on her last voyage, she set sail from Manila bound for Acapulco. Despite being overloaded, and contrary to the opinion of both pilots and Master, her Captain insisted on weighing anchor at the beginning of September. En route for the Mariana Islands, in the Pacific, they began to have difficulties, after sailing into a heavy storm, and she sank taking all of her crew down with her.

Occre San Ildefonso 1:70

San Ildefonso 1:70 Scale

In 1784 Work on the construction of the ship San Ildefonso began in Cartagena, based on a design by José Romero de Landa, who had been asked to build a 74-gun ship that would serve as a prototype for the future vessels of the Spanish Royal Navy, and under his direction.

Following favourable reports from her sea trials, she was adopted as the model for another seven ships that were built over the coming years, and which came to be known as the "Ildefonsinos".

After seeing action on numerous occasions, both in the Mediterranean Squadron and the Ocean Squadron, she took part in the battles of Cape St. Vincent, in 1797, and Trafalgar, in 1805. At Trafalgar, under Commodore Don José Vargas, and forming a part of the combined fleet's observation squadron, she was one of the fastest in the fleet. 34 of her crew members were killed and another 148 wounded.

San Juan, Felucca 1:70 Scale

Occre San Juan
Following the War of Independence, after Spain had lost her American colonies, merchant marine ships all but disappeared from the peninsula, leaving only small coastal sailing boats behind to re-establish the routes to the Antilles. Through the Royal Decree issued by Charles III, trade was re-opened with those colonies that remained faithful and it was the felucca, "San Juan" (El Glorioso), that made the first voyage.

Occre San Marcos Spanish Galleon 1:50

San Marcos Spanish Galleon 1:50 Scale

Occre San Marcos
This galleon is a direct descendant of the "caracks", large, distinguished galleons, originally Mediterranean based but later sailing the Atlantic. The name galleon was first given to a type of ship from Liguria, built at the start of the 16th century. Initially designed as merchantmen they were heavily armed, for defence against pirates and other enemies, but ended up, after 1570, becoming men of war. Although the galleons reached their greatest splendour when they plied the Atlantic, the height of their development, they were the result of accumulated experiences on the European Atlantic front and their experiences as merchantmen in the Mediterranean.

Occre Ulises Ocean Going Steam Tug 1:30

Ulises Ocean Going Steam Tug 1:30 Scale

Occre Ulises
The Ulises model was an ocean-going tug. During the sixties, maritime traffic was very intense, the coming and going of goods crossing seas and oceans around the world was constant. This activity was not without its risks; therefore the work of ocean-going tugs was vitally important, helping all those vessels that suffered mishaps. At that time, metal was the basic material used to construct the boats, combined with a certain percentage of wood. Builders took advantage of the strength of steel for the hull and the comfort of wood for the crew areas, which meant that they turned out models of singular beauty despite the fact that the boats were designed as working boats.
