Mantua Model Boat Kits

Mantua kits are all very good quality and certainly rate amongst the best within the period model ship market. All of the main ply sections, frames keel etc. are laser cut to ensure accuracy. The majority of these models feature a single plank on frame hull construction, although some are double planked. Hull planking consists of lime and/or walnut. The fittings supplied are made from various materials, including brass, walnut and boxwood. The decoration can be either very thin laser engraved wood, cast metal and/or photoetched brass. Comprehensive plan sheets and build instructions are included.

Dutch Naval Gunboat "Cannoniera Olandese" 1:43 Scale

 This Dutch Naval gun boat took part in the bombardment of Antwerp against the Belgian insurgents.
The captain G. Van Speyk refused to surrender himself or his ship he blew her, together with the crew, from the water on February 5th. 1831. After this tragic event similar vessels were used in 1833 by the Royal Belgian Navy to guard the river Scheldt.

Le Superbe. 74 Gun French Fighting Ship 1708 1:75 Scale

 Built in 1708, the third rate French ship Le Superbe was 143 feet long with a beam of over 40 feet. At 1,029 tons, Le Superbe carried adequate provisions to remain at sea with a crew of more than 600 men for up to six months. King Charles was so impressed by her majestic size and beautiful ornamentation that he ordered Dean (England's foremost naval architect) to copy her lines and design.
