The HMS Prince of Wales took part in a number of important actions early in WWII such as the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. She later had the misfortune to become one of the first capital ships to be sunk by airpower when she was sunk by Japanese bombers together with HMS Repulse. This assembly kit depicts the ship as she appeared during the fateful Battle of Malaya in December 1941. Differences from the HMS King George V, such as the bridge area and anti-aircraft armament, have been replicated. The kit also comes with parts to depict her Supermarine Walrus seaplane as well as Japanese G3M and G4M bombers (1 each). Comes with a display stand with name plate.

Tamiya Japanese Heavy Cruiser Chikuma 1:350  (TAM78027)

The Chikuma was completed in May 1939 as the second ship of the Tone-class. She was the final heavy cruiser to be built by the Japanese Navy and featured a distinctive design which concentrated four twin 20.3cm main gun turrets forward of the bridge in order to allow unimpeded launching of her six floatplanes from the aft deck during battle. Chikuma often accompanied the Japanese Navy's aircraft carriers since her floatplanes provided considerable reconnaissance capabilities to the fleet, and she was present at such important engagements as the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway. She continued to serve valiantly until her demise at the hands of U.S. carrier aircraft during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944.

Tamiya Japanese Light Cruiser Mikuma 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Light Cruiser Mikuma 1:350  (TAM78022)

The Japanese Navy's Mogami-class light cruisers were planned under the London Naval Treaty limits with an 8,500 ton standard displacement with 5 triple 15.5cm gun turrets. There were four ships in the class with the Mikuma being the 2nd to be completed in August 1935. She received distinctive Mogami-class features such as the flared bow, compact superstructures, and uniquely shaped funnels, while having different details on the aft mast and crane from those of Mogami, the 1st ship of the class. With the withdrawal from the treaty, the Mikuma was refitted with 20.3cm twin gun turrets and was converted into a heavy cruiser in 1939, then the Mikuma, Suzuya, and Kumano joined the 2nd Fleet as part of Cruiser Division 7. At the start of the Pacific war, they were sent to escort the Malay invasion force, and in February 1942, the Mogami and Mikuma escorted transports for the invasion of Java at Bantam Bay. In June 1942 at the Battle of Midway, the Mogami rammed the left side of the Mikuma during their withdrawal from the bay to avoid attacks from the U.S. submarine. To make matters worse, a concentrated attack by 114 aircraft hit Mikuma 6 times which made her the first Japanese heavy cruiser to be sunk in WWII.

Tamiya Japanese Aircraft Carrying Cruiser Mogami 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Aircraft Carrying Cruiser Mogami 1:350  (TAM78021)

In the latter half of the Pacific War, the Japanese Navy refitted the Mogami to improve her reconnaissance ability. Construction of the Mogami was completed in July 1935, and she was initially armed with five triple 15.5cm main guns. After the withdrawal of the London Naval Treaty, she was refitted with three triple 20.3cm main guns and became a heavy cruiser. In the first half of WWII, she served at the Malayan Operation and the Battle of Sunda Strait. Later at Midway in June 1942, she was heavily damaged by an aircraft bombing raid but was able to return to port. During repairs, she was fitted with an upper deck which could carry 11 aircraft, and ten triple 25mm anti-aircraft batteries were added for defense. In May 1943, the newly shaped Mogami left the dry docks but due to damaged sustained in November of the same year from air attacks at Rabaul, she underwent further repairs and her armament was once again strengthened. In June, 1944, she served at the defense of the Mariana Islands, and it was in October at the Leyte Gulf where she saw her end when she was attacked by enemy warships suffering catastrophic damage and sank into the depths of the Mindanao Sea.

Tamiya Japanese Heavy Cruiser Mogami 1:350  (TAM78023)

The Mogami-class was designed in 1931 as 8,500-ton light cruisers armed with five triple 15.5cm gun turrets, and the lead ship of the class, the Mogami, was completed in July 1935. She was rearmed with twin 20.3cm gun turrets in 1939 and it was in this configuration that she entered the war. She and her three sister ships formed the Japanese Second Fleets's Cruiser Division 7 and were assigned to support the landings at Malaya. During the Battle of Sunda Strait in March 1942, Mogami and her sister ship Mikuma sank the heavy cruiser USS Houston and light cruiser HMAS Perth. Following extensive damage suffered at the Battle of Midway, her stern was dramatically modified to carry reconnaissance floatplanes in an effort to enhance the fleet's scouting capabilities. She took part in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, where she was severely damaged by U.S. carrier aircraft and had to be scuttled by friendly forces.

Tamiya Japanese Heavy Cruiser Tone 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Heavy Cruiser Tone 1:350  (TAM78024)

During WWII, the Imperial Japanese Navy decided to refit the Tone-class as heavy cruisers and the construction of the Tone was completed in November 1938. As the Tone was designed to provide reconnaissance even during battle, she was therefore armed with four 20.3cm twin gun turrets which were concentrated forward of the bridge while the aft deck was dedicated to aircraft operations and could carry up to 6 floatplanes. With a rational hull design, she featured a top speed of 35 knots and had a long cruising range. As the Pacific War broke out in December 1941, the Tone served during the Pearl Harbor attack and was also apart of the Battle of Midway and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Later in October 1944, the Battle of Leyte Gulf saw the Tone contribute in sinking the USS Gambier Bay. She was then later assigned to the Japanese Naval Academy as a training ship and returned to Kure, where she was damaged by an air attack from the U.S. Navy's Task Force 58 in March 1945. In July, she was attacked in Etajima Bay by aircraft from Task Force 38 and sank in shallow water

Tamiya Japanese Battleship Musashi 1:350

The Musashi was the second ship in the Yamato-class, which were the largest battleships ever built. Completed in 1942, the Musashi took part in various campaigns before finally meeting her fate at the hands of U.S. Navy aircraft in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Tamiya's precision-made assembly kit model recreates this giant battleship in exquisite detail, including her defensive anti-aircraft suite of numerous single 25mm cannons on the main deck. This different anti-aircraft armament makes for an interesting comparison with the Yamato.

Tamiya Japanese Battleship Yamato (Premium) 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Battleship Yamato (Premium) 1:350  (TAM78025)

Based on the latest historical research, this famous WWII battleship has been reproduced down to the finest detail in this 752mm long 1/350 scale model kit. Even parts which had not been seen before in model form, such as the turret barbettes, have been reproduced as Tamiya challenges conventional ship model standards. This model accurately depicts the Yamato with increased anti-aircraft armament as she appeared on her final mission to Okinawa and may be assembled for either full-hull or waterline display. Two sheets of photo-etched parts for details such as ladders and cranes are also included. With this level of engineering, accuracy, and detail, this is literally Tamiya's new flagship model.

Tamiya Japanese Navy Destroyer Kagero 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Navy Destroyer Kagero 1:350  (TAM78032)

This is model kit of the Japanese Navy Destroyer Kagero. The lead ship of the Kagero class of destroyers included 19 in total. Laid down in September 1937, the Kagero was completed in just over 2 years and was commissioned in November 1939. While the Kagero is recognized as an effective destroyer design, like many of her counterparts she in fact ended up largely doing escort work, sheepherding carriers toward their goal, as she did in the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Later in the war she saw action on the "Tokyo Express" runs as destroyers were tasked with supplying and reinforcing beleaguered Japanese garrisons in the Solomons. She met her end at the hand of U.S. mines in 1943.

Tamiya Japanese Navy Destroyer Yukikaze 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Navy Destroyer Yukikaze 1:350  (TAM78020)

After the withdrawal from the Naval treaties, plans were laid to build Kagero-class warships. The Yukikaze was the 8th completed destroyer built of the Kagero-class in January 1940. The Yukikaze saw fierce action at Midway, Guadalcanal, Mariana Islands, Leyte Gulf, as well as serving in other battles throughout the Pacific Theater. Furthermore, she also served as a patrol ship and assisted in transportation duties. At the time of her completion, she initially came armed with three dual 12.7cm gun turrets and two quadruple 61cm torpedo launchers, but in the latter stages of the War, her armament was strengthened with a compliment of AA guns as well as radar changing her beautiful silhouette into one of ferociousness. Even at the Ten-Ichi-Go operation in April 1945 where she fought hard alongside with the doomed Yamato, she was able to save many survivors and return safely to port. The Yukikaze survived WWII relatively undamaged she was therefore named“the Lucky Destroyer”. After the war, she was used to ferry Japanese soldiers and personnel back to Japan. Later, she was transferred to the Republic of China for war reparation and served with distinction throughout the 1960's.

Tamiya Japanese Navy Submarine I-400 1:350

Tamiya Japanese Navy Submarine I-400 1:350  (TAM78019)

The I-400 was a submarine the likes of which the world had never seen before. At the time of their completion, the I-400 and her sister ships were the largest, and arguably the most advanced submarines in the world. With a 122m length, 12m width, and 6,560 ton displacement, their size rivalled that of destroyers of the time and their amazing endurance could allow them to traverse the globe one and a half times. Loaded with 3 Seiran bombers, the planned attack on the Panama Canal was only moments away from reality. Diverted to attack the gathering Allied invasion fleet at Ulithi, the war ended before the submarines could launch their strike. However, the I-400 class submarines' technological advances were recognized and it can be said that they helped influence the development of nuclear ballistic submarines after the war.

Tamiya U.S. Battleship BB-62 New Jersey (w/Detail Up Parts) 1:350  (TAM78028)

The 45,000-ton Iowa-class was the the largest and last battleships built by the U.S. Navy. The USS New Jersey, affectionately known as the "Big J," was the second ship of this class and saw service in WWII from early-1944. However, the advent of carrier airpower changed the nature of naval warfare and New Jersey was withdrawn from frontline duty after WWII in 1948. She was reactivated to participate in the Korean War and Vietnam War, but was again placed in reserve in 1969. However, thanks to President Reagan's policy of strengthening the navy, the modernization of the Iowa-class was proposed in 1981 and New Jersey was chosen as the first ship to undergo this program. She was equipped with new weaponry including Tomahawk cruise missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and Phalanx CIWS as well as new radars, ECM, and other electronic systems. She served as a missile-carrying battleship until her final decommissioning in 1991 and was eventually stricken from the U.S. Navy register in 1995. USS New Jersey was then restored to become a floating museum in Philadelphia.

Tamiya U.S. Battleship BB-63 Missouri (w/Detail Up Parts) 1:350  (TAM78029)

The USS Missouri (BB-63) was the third ship of the Iowa-class and was commissioned in 1944. During the Pacific War, she supported attacks on Kyushu and Okinawa and then participated in actions such as the bombardment of Muroran in Hokkaido. It is a well-known fact that the signing ceremony of Japan's surrender documents took place on the Missouri's decks on September 3, 1945. Following the end of the Korean War, the Missouri was mothballed at the reserve fleet anchorage but was refitted with, various, modern equipment to rejoin the U.S. Navy in 1986. Following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, the Missouri and her sister ship Wisconsin were deployed to the Middle East and she helped conduct the first firing of Tomahawk cruise missiles in combat during the opening stages of the Gulf War. The Tamiya model kit faithfully depicts the Missouri as she appeared in 1991. New parts have been tooled to update the kit.

Tamiya Yamato Japanese Battleship 1:350

Tamiya Yamato Japanese Battleship 1:350  (TAM78030)

The Japanese battleship Yamato was laid down in November 1937 and commissioned in December 1941, giving notice to the world of the level of Japanese ship-building technology. A truly massive ship, it had a waterline length of 256m, a beam of 38.9m, a displacement of around 70,000 tons and nine 46cm guns which had a maximum range of 41km and were capable of piercing 43cm of armor from 30km away. Her armor, meanwhile, weighed in at an staggering 21,000 tons. The hull of the ship had been kept as short as was possible, with defensive considerations meaning the bridge, gun turrets and mechanical sections concentrated in the center of the vessel. Beneath the waterline, she employed a bulbous bow that protruded 3 meters and contributed to increased wavemaking resistance. She featured in actions including the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Battle of Midway, where on April 7th 1945 she came under attack from over three hundred U.S. aircraft while on the way to Okinawa, sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
