Airfix Bristol Beaufighter Mk.X 1:72

Airfix Bristol Beaufighter Mk.X 1:72

The Bristol Beaufighter was a WWII British long range heavy fighter, developed from the earlier Beaufort design. Featuring two powerful Bristol Hercules engines, the aircraft gained a fearsome reputation for being both fast and able to deliver a powerful blow from its four 20mm cannons and a choice of either Torpedo or Rocket projectiles. Although developed to be a fighter, and used successfully as a night fighter, it was the TF.X Coastal Command version that was most successful; its range and power enabling it to take a heavy toll of Axis shipping.

Airfix Fairey Swordfish Mk1 1:72

Airfix Fairey Swordfish Mk1 1:72

The Royal Navy's primary torpedo bomber of the Second World War, the Swordfish, despite its obsolescence, proved to be an effective anti-submarine and torpedo bomber right up until the end of hostilities in 1945. In fact, the Swordfish went on to outlive its intended replacement, the Albacore, in Royal Navy Service.
Involved in such famous actions as the Taranto raid, the Bismarck operation and the Channel Dash, the vulnerable but effective Swordfish firmly cemented its place in aviation folklore.
Initially, the Swordfish operated from the large fleet carriers. Later it operated from escort carriers, and were very effective against U-boats. The nickname 'Stringbag' indicated the versatility of the Swordfish, which could carry an unlikely combination of loads, but also referred to its jungle of bracing wires, which belonged to a past age.

Airfix English Electric Lightning F.2A 1:72

Airfix English Electric Lightning F.2A 1:72

The earliest Lightning mark F1 entered RAF squadron service in 1960 and represented a quantum leap in capability and performance over its predecessors offering an integrated weapons system, Mach 2+ performance and a phenomenal rate of climb.

The F2 introduced in 1962 was heavily modified in 1968 producing the F2A with square cut fin, kinked leading edges and enlarged ventral tank which gave an enhanced combat air patrol time of around two hours.
The F2A adapted superbly from its original high altitude role to patrolling the Berlin Corridor at low level. Replaced by Phantoms in RAF Germany 1977, the Lightning had few rivals for speed and rate of climb.

Airfix Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR3 1:72

Airfix Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR3 1:72

Developed in the 1960s as the first truly successful V/STOL combat aircraft, the Hawker Siddeley Harrier proved a revelation upon entering service in its earliest from, the GR.1. However, some improvements could be made and this came in the GR.3, which featured better sensor in the nose and tail, as well as a more powerful version of the Rolls Royce Pegasus engine.

The GR.3 was the first of the Harrier variants to see combat, joining Operation Corporate, the re-taking of the Falkland Islands, engaging Argentinian Forces in ground attack missions. Replaced by the GR.5 Harrier II, the GR.3 proved itself to be a capable and successful aircraft.

Airfix Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' 1:72

Airfix Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' 1:72

The Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' was the most numerous Japanese torpedo bomber of the Second World War and while primarily operated as a torpedo bomber from carriers, it also saw service as a land based bomber. A single engine monoplane, it was defended by just one rearward firing machine gun, operated by the radio operator, and its relatively low speed left it vulnerable to enemy fighters, perfoming well at Pearl Harbour and going on to have success at the Battle of the Coral Sea and Midway.

Airfix Bristol Blenheim Mk.If 1:72

Airfix Bristol Blenheim Mk.If 1:72

The Bristol Blenheim was originally conceived as a privately funded high-speed civilian aircraft, intended to wrestle the record for the fastest civilian aircraft in Europe away from the Germans. It achieved this with ease and immediately attracted the attention of the RAF at the outbreak of WWII, the Blenheim was available in more numbers than any other RAF aircraft.

Before the outbreak of WWII, the RAF were in need of a long range, heavy fighter and to fulfil this role, some 200 Blenheim Mk.I medium bombers were converted to ‘F – Fighter’ standard. The main differences included the addition of a ventral gun pack of four .303 in machine guns attached under the belly of the aircraft and airborne interceptor radar equipment for night fighter variants. Most aircraft were quickly relegated to night fighter duties, following the heavy losses suffered by aircraft used in daytime fighter operations.

Airfix Nakajima B5N1

Airfix Nakajima B5N1 "Kate" 1:72 1:72

When the Nakajima B5N1 torpedo bomber entered service in 1937, it was the most advanced aircraft of its type in the world. Known by its Allied reporting name of ‘Kate’, the B5N1 proved devastatingly effective in the early Pacific engagements of WWII.

Known as the Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber, the B5N1 ‘Kate’ was the main Japanese naval attack aircraft of the war and was to take a heavy toll of Allied shipping. Even though it served throughout WWII, the ‘Kate’ was obsolete by the time newer American fighters entered the Pacific War but it was forced to continue fighting, as an effective replacement aircraft was not available to the Japanese Navy.
