Trumpeter Admiral Hipper (1941) 1:350 Scale  (TR05317)

Trumpeter German cruiser Admiral Hipper 1941. Admiral Hipper was launched on February 6th, 1937 and commissioned in April 29th, 1939. She was the lead ship of the Admiral Hipper class heavy cruisers. She took part in the German invasion of Norway. Then she broke out undetected into the Atlantic and operated as a merchant raider, based at Brest, France. She returned to Kiel via the Denmark Strait, arriving on February 28th, 1941. Modifications were made to increase fuel storage and hence her cruising range. On New Year’s Eve 1942, she took part in the German attack on convoy JW-51B, where she sunk a minesweeper and a destroyer. At last, the German attack was repelled and Admiral Hipper was damaged. She returned to Wilhelmshaven, where she was decommissioned. Admiral Hipper was not ready for service until January 1945, when she was used, partly repaired, to evacuate refugees and wounded troops from the Eastern Front. Admiral Hipper was scuttled in dock at Kiel Deutsche Werke yards on 2 May 1945.

Z-25, a Type 1936A destroyer, was commissioned on November 30th, 1940. During the war, her forward gun was replaced by a twin turret and the anti-aircraft armament was increased. In operation Cerberus, Z-25 and a number of smaller ships supported Scharnhost, Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen sailed from Brest to their home bases in Germany via the English Channel. Despite British attacks by the Royal Air Force, the Fleet Air Arm and Coastal Artillery, all the ships had completed their transit. In March 1942, Z-25, Z-24, Z-26 and U-boats intercepted PQ-13 which was a British Arctic convoy. The Germans sank 6 transport ships. From late April to early May, Z-25 attack convoy QP-11 together with another two destroyers. HMS Edinburgh was sunk as while as a transport ship. She was taken over by France after the war and Scrapped in 1958.

Trumpeter German Zerstorer Z-30 (1942) 1:350 Scale

Trumpeter German Zerstorer Z-30 (1942) 1:350 Scale  (TR05322)

Z-30 was one of German navy Type 1936A destroyers. The rationale for Type 1936A destroyers was influenced by two factors, the need to deal with the superior numbers of British destroyers and the potential need to fight the French Navy which possessed several types of oversize and powerfully armed destroyers. The design followed closely behind the Type 1936 and shared many of the same features. But their bows were more flared and in terms of armament they were closer to light cruisers than the typical destroyer. The use of 150 mm guns was atypical of destroyers which tended to have guns around 120 - 127 mm in calibre. The power plants were still as unreliable as in the previous types and the tonnage increases resulted in a slight decrease in performance. In December 1943, Scharnhost and 5 destroyers (Z-29, Z-30,Z-33,Z-34,Z-38) was ordered to seek out and destroy the Convoy JW55B. Later, destroyers had been ordered to return for some reason.

Trumpeter HMS Hood British Battleship (1941) 1:350 Scale

Trumpeter HMS Hood British Battleship (1941) 1:350 Scale  (TR05302)

HMS Hood British Battleship 1941. The third and last HOOD was the mighty battle cruiser, which was laid down in 1915 as a class of four, and finally completed until 1920. Certainly she was the most powerful warship of her day and her displacement of 41,200 tons made far and away the heaviest capital ship in the world for Twenty years. In September 1940, Hood spent the winter of 1940-41 on patrols in the northern waters around Iceland watching over any attempted break out by German heavy units. She was thus still employed in May 1941 when Bismarck and Prince Eugen got through the Patrols. Hood and the brand new battleship the Prince of Wales were dispatched to intercept and destroy the German Ships before they broke loose on the British Convoy routes. 24 May 1941, fire was opened at 05.52 at a range of 25,000 yards and Hood and the Prince of Wales were steering towards Bismarck to close the range. The German ship at once replied very accurately and on her third salvo she hit Hood close to the main mast setting her on fire. At 05.55 the British ships began to turn broadside on to the Germans to enable all guns to open fire. As they did so Bismarck fifth salvo struck Hood with devastating effect. A thousand feet high explosion tore her apart and she split in two sinking in less than two minutes. There were only three survivors from her crew of 1,415.

As part of Operation Holder, she made a trip in October of 1943 to Murmansk with technical personnel and special naval stores. For the rest of the year, HURON escorted convoys to and from North Russia. In February 1944, after one more trip to Murmansk, she joined the 10th Flotilla for pre-invasion duties spending the next seven months in the Channel. On April 25/26 1944, HURON was involved in a 'scrap' with German Elbing class destroyers in the English Channel. After the action, she and ASHANTI collided and the results damaged HURON's port hull and the main bulkhead between #1 and #2 boiler rooms.HURON managed to return safely to Plymouth and repairs were completed on 7th May, just in time for D-Day operations. HURON arrived in Nova Scotia for a refit on 13th of August 1944. It was completed and her sea trials were over by 20th November.

WW2 Liberty Ship S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien. Liberty ships were American-made cargo ships that were designed to make only one solitary ocean voyage. Jeremiah O'Brien was built in Portland, Maine, in 56 days and launched on June 19, 1943. The Jeremiah O'Brien is 441 feet long, 57 feet wide, displaces 14,245 tons and carries a wartime crew of 58 sailors. To protect itself from enemy aircraft and ships, the O'Brien carried two five-inch guns and eight 20- millimeter antiaircraft guns. The S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien is one of the few remaining ships that took part in the D-Day landings in 1944. The O'Brien in fact made four convoy trips across the treacherous North Atlantic. Trumpeter USS Essex Aircraft Carrier CV-9 (1943) 1:350 Scale

Trumpeter USS Essex Aircraft Carrier CV-9 (1943) 1:350 Scale  (TR05602)

USS CV-9 Essex Carrier 1943. During World War II the United States built three types of aircraft carriers, the Essex class heavy carriers, the Independence class light carriers, and “escort” carriers. The 24 ships of the Essex class were not remarkable for any great design innovation, but essentially for being in right place at right time, and for doing well the task history gave them. The Essex class carriers served in numbers too large, and too late in the war to gain the fame of the prewar carriers whose names they frequently bore, but they served longer than any other class, and through wars never dreamed of by their builders. Those that survive as museum ship today are a fitting tribute to the class that ruled the Pacific fifty years ago.

Trumpeter USS Indianapolis CA-35 1945 1:350 Scale  (TR05326)

Indianapolis had a distinguished career from the start. As the flagship of the navy’s Scouting Force, she hosted President Roosevelt three times including a state visit to South America in 1936. She was at sea in the Pacific when World War II broke out, then went on to serve in the Aleutian Islands in 1942–43 rather than in the Solomon Islands, as most of her sister pre-war heavy cruisers did. Afterward, she served as Admiral Spruance’s fifth Fleet flagship and was hit by a kamikaze. After her repairs were completed, she received orders to carry parts for the first atomic bombs in a high-speed secret mission to Tinian, she raced on unescorted and arrived Tinian 26 July, having set a record in covering some 5000 miles from San Francisco in only 10 days. At 12:14 a.m. on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in the Philippine Sea. This is the last major American warship to be lost during World War II, and the greatest sea disaster in American naval history.

Trumpeter USS Massachusetts BB-59 1:350 Scale

Trumpeter USS Massachusetts BB-59 1:350 Scale  (TR05306)

USS Massachusetts BB-59. The South Dakota class was originally planned that only two ships of this design would be built, and that the Iowa design would start with BB-59. In the event was decided to build BB-59 and BB-60 as repeats of this design, to expedite production. This class was generally resembled the North Carolina class, but shorter, with one funnel instead of two. The armor and underwater protection scheme was entirely new, however. The design was found to be rather cramped, especially for antiaircraft guns in the superstructure, because the length of the superstructure had been reduced. The 5" guns were at the 01 and 02 levels, rather than at the main deck and 01 level, as they had been in North Carolina. Still, they were good, effective ships and gave good service during WWII. As with other battleships of their era, however, they were rapidly overtaken by changes in naval warfare.

U.S Nuclear Aircraft Carrier CVN-68 Nimitz. USS Nimitz (CVN-68) Largely completed by 1973, USS Nimitz was not commissioned until 1975 due to the late delivery of essential components for her nuclear powerplant. In 1975, Nimitz joined the Atlantic fleet, ending Enterprise's reign as the largest warship in the world. The carrier's flight deck is generally the same as that of the Kitty hawk, but with the cut-off forward flight deck first seen on the John F.Kennedy. Between 1975 and 1985, Nimitz made numerous cruises in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. In 1980, the carrier made a round-the-world deployment. While in the Indian Ocean, she served as the sea borne base for the abortive Teheran hostage rescue mission, Operation Eagle Claw. At the start of the 1981 Mediterranean cruise, the F-14 made its air-to-air combat debut when two VF-41 Tomcats from Nimitz shot down two attacking Libyan Sukhoi su-22 fighters.
