Tamiya German Destroyer Z Class (Z37-39) Project Barbara 1:700  (TAM31908)

Germany's Z Class destroyers were built just prior to the start of WWII and saw combat against British destroyers at Narvik in northern Norway and as escorts for the battlecruiser Scharnhorst's last sortie. The Type 1936A ships had their 12.7cm guns replaced with 15cm guns, and the Z37-39 ships in particular were fitted with a twin turret at the bow. In 1944, a plan to increase anti-aircraft armament on the Z Class destroyers, code-named "Barbara," was put into action. These destroyers fought against the mighty Royal Navy until the end of the war.

Tamiya HMS Hood & E Class Destroyer 1:700

Tamiya HMS Hood & E Class Destroyer 1:700  (TAM31806)

Built in May 1920, the British Battle Cruiser Hood featured a displacement of 48,360t. Flagship of the Royal Navy, for close to 20 years she was recognized as one of the world's largest warships. On May 23rd, 1941, the Hood was accompanied by the battleship Prince of Wales, two F Class destroyers, and two E Class destroyers, as they set out to hunt down mammoth German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. On the morning of the 24th, Hood engaged the German ships, firing at Prinz Eugen. The German ships returned fire with Hood hit by Bismarck. The hit penetrated her deck, detonating her ammunition and resulting in an explosion blowing the Hood in half. Along with the loss of its symbolic flagship, the Royal Navy also suffered the loss of 1,416 men, their greatest loss of WWII. The two E Class destroyers which accompanied Hood, Echo and Electra, escaped unharmed. Echo and Electra were built in 1934 and featured a 1,350 ton displacement with a top speed of 36 knots. Echo went on to perform convoy duty in the Arctic and Mediterranean with Electra serving in the Pacific including serving in the Battle of Malaya and Battle of the Java Sea

Tamiya HMS Repulse Battlecruiser 1:700

Tamiya HMS Repulse Battlecruiser 1:700  (TAM31617)

From the time of its building, the British Battle Cruiser Repulse was the one of the most beautiful warships made. During WWI, the light armored battle cruiser had high speed and an offensive ability and took a leading role in sea offensives. In August, 1916 the construction of the Repulse had been completed. After the Great War, the Repulses side armor and armaments were both strengthened and modernized. When WWII broke out, the Repulse actively participated in the chasing of the German battleship Bismarck. Later it was deployed to the Far East where tensions ran high with Japan. December 10, 1941 two days after the beginning of the Pacific War, together the Repulse and the new battleship the Prince of Wales, engaged the Malaysian invading Japanese forces. The battleship Repulse was later sunk by thunderous intensive Japanese aerial bombing attacks. It was said to have shocked the proud British Navy and British Prime Minister Churchill of the sinking of both capital ships Repulse and the Prince of Wales.

Tamiya Japanese Light Cruiser Mogami 1:700

Tamiya Japanese Light Cruiser Mogami 1:700  (TAM31359)

The light cruiser Mogami, lead ship of her class, possessed five triple 15.5cm gun positions and a 150,000 output that would rival even its famed cousin the Yamato - it was an ambitious attempt to shoehorn heavy cruiser armament into a slimline, lightweight hull. Later in her service life, in 1939, she was up-armed with 20.3cm guns and converted into a heavy cruiser before later joining the outbreak of war in the Pacific. The alterations to this versatile vessel didn't end there, however, and after sustaining heavy damage at the Battle of Midway in June 1942, Japanese navy planners took the chance to have her converted into an aircraft carrying cruiser while carrying out repairs. She finally met her end in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, October 1944. Direct hits to her bridge from U.S. aircraft were compounded by her colliding with the heavy cruiser Nachi, and the Japanese navy was left with no choice other than to scuttle the Mogami, the task performed by the destroyer Akebono. Thus the Mogami sank, leaving just the memory of this ship of many faces. Now, she joins the Water Line Series for the first time in her light cruiser guise.

Tamiya Prince of Wales Battleship 1:700  (TAM31615)

The British Battleship Prince of Wales was the second ship of the King George V class. Soon after her completion in March 1941, she was involved in the historic hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. In October she was deployed to South-East Asia to fortify the important British post of Singapore. However, her short career of a mere 9 months came to a dramatic end when intercepted by Japanese bombers in what was to be known as the "Battle of Malaya". Tamiya is proud to add the Prince of Wales as she stood during this historic naval battle to our high quality Water Line Series. Kit also features Japanese planes Type 96 "Nell" and Type 1 "Betty" attack bombers for a complete set to accurately recreate battle scene.

Tamiya Prinz Eugen German Heavy Cruiser 1:700

Tamiya Prinz Eugen German Heavy Cruiser 1:700  (TAM31805)

The Germania Belst Company from Kiel constructed the Prinz Eugen as the third and last Admiral Hipper Class Heavy Cruiser to be commissioned by the Kriegsmarine. Admiral Hipper Class Heavy Cruisers were characteristically larger than heavy cruisers from other countries, and the huge Prinz Eugen was elongated an additional 5 meters. With a displacement tonnage measuring at over 14,000tons this enormous German cruiser packed the firepower of four 20.3cm twin gun turrets for its main armament. In May of 1941 the Prinz Eugen participated in Operation Rheinubung to intercept trade ships in the Atlantic. On this mission she joined forces with the Battleship Bismarck to help sink the British Battle Cruiser Hood and inflict considerable damage on the British Battleship Prince of Wales. In February of 1942, the Prinz Eugen, together with the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau left their docks at Brest for Norway on an unexpected dash through the British Channel, in broad daylight. Known as Operation Cerberus, this was to be one of the riskiest, yet best prepared and best coordinated operations carried out by German forces in the Second World War. After arriving safely in German waters, Prinz Eugen was active in the strategic withdrawal from the Russian front, firing thousands of shells at encroaching Russian forces when she provided support for evacuation ships carrying German troops and civilians. One of the few German cruisers to survive World War II, the Prinz Eugen now rests in the warm waters of the Marshal Islands. After enduring two atomic bomb tests she lies capsized in the calm shallows of the Kwajelein Atoll.

Tamiya Shimakaze Destroyer 1:700

Tamiya Shimakaze Destroyer 1:700  (TAM31460)

The Shimakaze was a destroyer that once could boast being one of the fastest on the seas at 40.9 knots, thanks to 75,000hp from her steam turbines. Her quintuple torpedo launchers were designed especially for her. While 16 ships were originally planned for her class, she ended up the only one of her kind. She was commissioned on May 10th, 1943 and served across the theater of conflict until she was sunk in an attack by U.S. aircraft in the Battle of Ormoc Bay, November 1944.
The Shimakaze Waterline model kit was originally released in 1972. This 2017 version of the model kit is completely new as it was designed using up-to-date documents to re-capture her with superb accuracy.

Tamiya U.S. Aircraft Carrier Saratoga CV-3 1:700

Tamiya U.S. Aircraft Carrier Saratoga CV-3 1:700  (TAM31713)

This is a 1/700 scale model of the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier CV-3 Saratoga. It's the longest ship to appear in the long running Tamiya Water Line Series. The Saratoga is a highly interesting subject. Launched in April 1925, the ‘Sister Sara' was commissioned in November 1927 as an aircraft carrier. However, she was originally laid down as a battle cruiser and reclassified mid-way through the manufacturing process. This explains features rather unique on an aircraft carrier of her era, such as an enclosed bow and massive funnel.

Sister Sara was a veteran of many actions in the WWII conflict, including the February 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima operation where she survived devastating hits from Japanese fighters. Her final contribution to the U.S. cause came after the end of WWII; she was sunk as one of the targets in a nuclear test on Bikini Atoll.

The USS Yorktown was completed in September 1937 as the first ship of her namesake-class and the U.S. Navy's sixth aircraft carrier. When the Pacific War broke out, she became the flagship of Task Force 17 under the command of Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher and conducted a number of operations around the Pacific. During the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942, she helped thwart the Japanese Navy's advance on New Guinea despite suffering severe damage. Subsequently, at the Battle of Midway, the Yorktown and her sister ships USS Enterprise and USS Hornet defeated the Japanese Mobile Fleet, but the Yorktown herself suffered severe damage by torpedo and bomb hits from the aircraft of the Japanese carrier Hiryu. She was finally sunk by torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-168. The Tamiya 1/700 scale model is a precise replica assembly kit of this iconic carrier during WWII.

Tamiya U.S. Battleship Iowa 1:700  (TAM31616)

Commissioned in February 1943, the USS Iowa served briefly in the Atlantic before departing for the Pacific Theater in January 1944. She served mainly to support carrier based air strikes against Japanese-held islands, protecting said carriers and shelling enemy shore and naval positions. She took part in the Marianas campaign and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, although she missed a chance for a showdown with the Japanese battleship Yamato. Tamiya U.S. Battleship Missouri 1:700

Tamiya U.S. Battleship Missouri 1:700  (TAM31613)

The Iowa Class Battleships were the largest and final great battleships of the US Navy. They included the BB-61 Iowa, the BB-62 New Jersey, and the third ship, the famous BB-63 Battleship Missouri. These ships, which boasted an amazing 212,000hp allowing a 33knots max speed, were armed with massive 40.6cm main guns. The Iowa Class ships stretched 270.4m but were relatively thin, with only 33m max length, enabling these ships to pass through the Panama Canal. Being commissioned in June 1944, the USS Missouri took part in many operations during the Pacific War including bombardments on Japanese mainland and capital. On September 2, 1945, the treaty for the unconditional surrender of Japanese forces was signed onboard the deck of the historical USS Missouri. With the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950 the USS Missouri was deployed again with the other Iowa Class Battleships for fire support. The USS Missouri was relegated to reserve duty in 1955, but became subject to complete renovation and modernization in 1986 when she was fitted with the latest in electronic weapon systems, cruise missiles and other improvements. In 1991, the USS Missouri was deployed to fight in the Gulf War. Finally, in 1993, after about a half-century of service, this historical Battleship was at last retired.

Tamiya U.S. Fletcher-Class Destroyer DD-797 Cushing 1:700  (TAM31907)

During WWII, 175 of the 2,000 ton Fletcher-class destroyers were built for the U.S. Navy and they served as the main destroyers of both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets. One such Fletcher-class ship was the USS Cushing (DD-797) which was completed in 1944. Taking lessons learned in battle, she was a late-production ship fitted with increased anti-aircraft armament and a square-shaped bridge which offered greater visibility. In addition to five 12.7cm guns and a quintuple 533mm torpedo launcher, she was armed with five twin 40mm cannons and seven single 20mm cannons. From her deployment in 1944, she took part in actions such as the attacks on Taiwan and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and at the end of the war she entered Tokyo Bay with the USS Missouri and witnessed the signing of the surrender documents.

Tamiya U.S. Navy Destroyer DD412 Hammann 1:700

Tamiya U.S. Navy Destroyer DD412 Hammann 1:700  (TAM31911)

The USS Hammann (DD412) was commissioned in August 1939, the fourth ship in the 1,500-ton Sims class of destroyers. Her hull had a raised sheer strake to protect from higher waves, while the use of a single funnel allowed a large area at the stern for her impressive ordnance. She was equipped with four 12.7cm guns, four single 12.7mm machine guns and eight torpedo tubes. After rescuing survivors of the stricken aircraft carrier USS Lexington in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942, the Hammann screened another aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown, in the Battle of Midway in June of that year. While attempting to salvage the Yorktown, which had been badly damaged by Japanese aircraft, she was torpedoed by the Japanese submarine I-168, and swiftly sank. She received two battle stars for her service in two major naval battles of WWII.
