Advanced Ship Modelling

Glassfibre Handbook

Ship Model Builders Handbook: A Guide to fittings on the small ship

The Ship Model Builders Handbook is a compilation of photographs and data relative to the visible fittings, machinery and superstructures that may be found on the small merchant ship, tug, fishing vessel etc. The range is limited to vessels of an overall length of approximately 250 feet (76 metres). The content applies mainly to powered vessels although some of the fittings would have been found on earlier vessels where design has passed down virtually unchanged. Many model ship builders never have the opportunity to visit working ships of today and often live many miles from the sea and seaports so that the information here will be of immense value.

Ship Modelling Solutions

Brian King has earned an international reputation for the quality of his models built using skills initially learnt during the course of a 5-year craft apprenticeship where he acquired the basic practical skills in both wood and metal work.

These allied to a natural talent have been the source of his mostly very complicated models of large battleships. He is particularly interested in warships of the late Victoria era, which he thinks has largely been ignored by ship modellers hitherto. He is a great exponent of the art of metal etching about which, with Azien Watkin, he has written two books.
