Experienced and adventurous sailor Robert Surcouf commissioned "Le Renard" in 1812. It is a 70 ton cutter, armed with 10 carronades and 4 guns. The crew consisted of 46 men.
On the 9th of September 1813, Le Renard victoriously led the last corsair combat. The ship was put to chase by the English ship "Alphea", better armed with 16 guns and a first rate crew of 80 officers and men. The ensuing action included a nigh engagement.
