Euromodel Como

Euromodel has been involved for more than 43 years in the creation of authentic ship models in order to give you the best in this field.

Their kits contain frames and decks already laser-cut for simple yet precise assembly. All timbers included in the kits are of the highest quality.
In the kits you will find a complete assortment of wood accessories, metal castings & turnings, timbers for the double planking and all necessary material to give the modeller the possibility of creating a high quality product. The naval architect-drawn designs are most comprehensive and show all the necessary detail.

Euromodel kits are based on sets of drawings by a naval architect and contain a comprehensive amount of detail that would be a challenge to the most serious ship modeller. This is in contrast to most other kits that whilst they also contain excellent plans, the intention there is to achieve a build similar to the plans provided. Euromodel offers plans that can be interpreted at various levels of complexity. If the builder has limited experience in the craft of shipbuilding, then the plans can be read at a simplistic level.
It could well be argued that the outcome is somewhere on the continuum between a standard model construction and a scratch model. How far you wish to extend this continuum is up to you. Your build of this ship will be determined by the degree of complexity you choose.
The kit material will go a long way towards achieving a good model but be aware that the purchase of some extra material might be necessary depending on how far you wish to go in emulating the plans. There will be little left over from the kit contents, but during the construction you should experience a compelling drive to create something better than the basic model.
Euromodel is aware of this challenge and so provides just the basic needs and leaves it up to the modeller to determine how far he will extend his skills.

Euromodel Ajax 18th Century European Frigate 1:72 Scale

Ajax 18th Century European Frigate 1:72 Scale

The intricate designs for this frigate were developed by Mr. Sella di Genova in 1976/1977 and were taken from an old book of naval architecture published in German from the library of the "Ansaldo S. Giorgio" Shipyards of Genoa. His focus was on an illustrated set of drawings of the actual ship 'Aiax'. The plans illustrate in great detail the construction of a typical European frigate of the late 18th. called "Aiax"; also included are suggested modifications that would present a ship more typical of the early 19th. Century. The builder of this kit then has the choice of two different ships.

Euromodel Derfflinger 17th Century Felucca 1:66 Scale

Derfflinger 17th Century Felucca 1:66 Scale

The feluccas are different to ships used in Europe in the seventeenth century not only for their round shape with a lowered quarter deck but also for their pronounced round shaped-hull. Their dimensions were long and hulls of a very narrow cross-section compared to other square-sailed vessels.
They were first produced in 1595 with square sails on their foremast and main mast and a lateen spanker on the mizzenmast. These vessels were fast but requiring only a small crew to operate them and had the advantage of being cheap to build
Pieter J. Lioorne-Hoorn (Holland) is credited with their design with the first feluccas built in Lubecca, Germany in 1618. The last one was built around 1780. The ‘Friede’ felucca, as an example was built in Berlin in the dockyards of Berlin in 1682 – its length was 32 metres.

Euromodel Falmouth 18th Century

Falmouth 18th Century "East Indiaman Company" Armed Merchant Ship 1:75 Scale

The Falmouth was commenced by Mr. Perry to Blackwall Yard (England) on the 22nd of August 1750 and launched on 14th August 1752 as show on page 27 of "Chronicles of Blackwall Yard" by Henry Green and Robert Wigram . It was the first trading vessel of the English Indiaman Companies and showed a close resemblance to a warship in sail plan and rigging, with the most up-to-date reef-points to her topsails The ship was equipped with a large amount of artillery, unusual for the trading vessels of that period. In that she was run along the lines of naval discipline was due to the fact that the vessel could sail alone without any convoy ship, since its rich load was a good bounty for all the enemy vessels and pirate ships.

Euromodel La Renommee 18th Century French Frigate 1:70 Scale

La Renommee 18th Century French Frigate 1:70 Scale

There were two Renommee’s built in France, one in the 17 Century and this one in the 18 Century. Launched in 1744 at either Byrone or Brest, La Renommee was a one-off 40-gun ship designed by Antoine Groignard with 30 12-pounders and 10 8-pounder guns. She was captured by the British Navy (HMS Dover) 27 September, 1747 and converted into a 30-gun fifth-rate frigate as the HMS Renown and served until she was broken up in 1771.
However, this type of frigate is very important in the evolution of ships of the British Navy because it inspired the development of a series of fifth-rate frigates equipped with only thirty guns of large calibre, all placed on the second deck.
Details for this ship have relied on Chapman’s book, ‘Architectura Navalis Mercatoria’

Euromodel Mordaunt 17th Century 4th Rate English Ship 1:60 Scale

Mordaunt 17th Century 4th Rate English Ship 1:60 Scale

The Mordaunt was launched at Depford, near London in 1681. It was commissioned by a syndicate of shipowners headed by Lord Mordaunt. However, he later became the sole owner of the vessel, when the other members left that association.
The aim in having such a greatly armed private ship was to eliminate the war ship stock. This idea aroused some suspicion; therefore the Ambassador of Spain presented his complaints to the Court of St. James, asserting that a warship owned by private people could have been easily taken by the Elector of Brandenburg, who was completing a fleet to move against Spain.
The vessel was sequestered, and Lord Mordaunt was forced by the Court to limit the armament and crew. In 1683, the ship was seconded into the Royal Navy, where it remained until 21 November, 1693, when it disappeared in the open sea of Cuba. A model of this ship is shown in Greenwich Museum.

Euromodel Pinco Genovese 18th Century Ligurian Navy Ship 1:36 Scale

Pinco Genovese 18th Century Ligurian Navy Ship 1:36 Scale

Pinco Genovese was typical of the ships used by the Ligurian Navy in the Mediterranean from the middle of the 18th to the early 19th century. With a capacity of 300 tons, the vessel was set up with a three-masted lateen sail format and this was only replaced in bad weather with a square sail system. The huge expanses of sails allowed them to out-run the enemy and a battery of cannon often assured victory in naval conflict. To enhance the speed of the Pinco, goods were also covered, and even stowed away on board (particularly the barrels).

Euromodel Schifetto Carlofortini 1:15 Scale

Schifetto Carlofortini 1:15 Scale

The term ‘schifetto’ comes from the word "skiff" that means lance boat. The schifetto belongs to the generic category of the "gullets", very widespread over the Mediterranean. According to the places where it operated and the type of activity they were used for, the gullet assumed different characteristics and variations that distinguished it. The schifetto was the ancient boat used by the Carlofortinians (people of Carloforte or indeed Sardinia) for the creel fishing of lobsters. Of restricted dimensions, it rarely exceeded 6 metres in length.
