Graupner Bismarck Battleship

Bismarck Battleship

 The Treaty of Versailles permitted Germany to build new ships with a maximum of only 10,000 tons. This made it possible to build only armoured ships of the Germany class (e.g. Graf Spee). Only after the conclusion of the German-British Fleet Agreement of June 1935, was Germany officially allowed to build battleships with a standard displacement of up to 35,000 t. However, these requirements were ignored, so that later on the Bismarck had an operational displacement of about 42,000 t. When it was commissioned in August 1940, it was the largest and most powerful battleship in the world.

Graupner CAP San Diego Freighter

CAP San Diego Freighter

 Scale model of the Cap San Diego museum ship, which is stationed in the port of Hamburg. It is based on original drawings provided by the Cap San Diego Operating Company mbH (www.capsandiego.de).
In 1962 the ships of the Cap San class ushered in the era of fast freighters with their large refrigerated holds and fittings for twelve passengers. With their slim hulls and pronounced stem and stern rakes these ships were more reminiscent of elegant motor-yachts than freighters, and that was why they also became known as the White Swans of the South Atlantic. Eventually, after about 1980, the Container became the dominant means of goods transport, and the end of the mixed cargo freighter hove into sight; one result of this development was the sale of the Cap San Diego to Spain in 1981.

Graf Spee

 Scale model of the German Navy's armoured ship, launched in 1934.
The armoured ships were designed and developed in accordance with the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles, which denied Germany the right to build large combat ships over 10,000 tonnes. These ships were fitted with powerful armaments for their size, and this gained them the rather mocking nickname of "pocket battleships" from the English.

Graupner HMS Hood

HMS Hood

 An accurate scale model of the Royal Navy's battle cruiser of 1918. The Admiral class ships were developed during the First World War to counter the threat of the German Mackensen classes, but only HMS Hood was completed. The vessel was commissioned in 1920, while her three sister ships were cancelled and broken up.
The ship was named after Admiral Samuel Hood, first Viscount Hood (1724 - 1816)

Graupner Alexander von Humboldt

Alexander von Humboldt

 Scale model of the barque Alexander von Humboldt operated by the German charity Sail Training of Bremerhaven (www.gruene-segel.de).
The model was developed according to original drawings in collaboration with the DSST.
The Alexander von Humboldt was converted from a former fire ship of 1906. At that time fire ships were built with seaworthy sailing ship hulls. The central mast took the form of a lantern mast.
Sailing the model in wind strengths above 1 Beaufort is not recommended!
Since the model is not fitted with a variable rig, it should be operated as a powered boat with sails.

Graupner PT109 Torpedo Boat

PT109 Torpedo Boat

 Model of the U.S. Navy high-speed torpedo boat which was commanded by the later President of the USA, John F. Kennedy. During a mission the PT-109 was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer. For his gallantry in saving the vessel's crew JFK was awarded the Medal of Honor - the American armed forces' highest decoration for bravery in wartime.

Graupner Scharnhorst Battle Cruiser

Scharnhorst Battle Cruiser

 Accurate scale model of the former German War Navy's battle cruiser of 1936. The Scharnhorst and her sister ship Gneisenau were the first warships to be built which significantly exceeded the specifications laid down by the Treaty of Versailles. To avoid provoking a conflict with England, the vessels were fitted with the relatively weakarmament of 28 cm guns, although they carried powerful armour and had a high top speed of 31.5 kn.
Nevertheless the ships were not legalised until the signing of the German-British Fleet Agreement.

Graupner S.M.S. Emden Cruiser

S.M.S. Emden Cruiser

 The S.M.S. Emden gained world-wide recognition due to the courageous behaviour of Commander Karl von Müller and his crew in the face of the enemy.
The Emden came to grief during a voyage in the Pacific and Indian Oceans in 1914, when the vessel again and again eluded a large number of enemy ships by clever tactical thinking.
The end came on the 11.09.1914 when the Emden, with her inferior armaments, encountered H.M.A.S. Sydney of the Australian Navy. After a hard battle the Sydney destroyed the Emden completely.
